adidas invites runners to refresh their gear and make a difference

Gather up your old running footwear and turn them into something valuable with the launch of the adidas ‘Refresh Your Gear’ campaign.
adidas is offering a R400 discount on new running shoes for every pair of old ones, of any brand, donated and will distribute the second-hand gear to disadvantaged runners through SCORE, a non-profit organisation specializing in community development in sport and recreation, and The Two Oceans Marathon Initiative (TOMI).
During the campaign, local adidas ambassadors such as Graeme Smith, Lucas Radebe, Bryan Habana and Jean de Villiers will be refreshing their gear at selected stores across South Africa in support of the charities involved.
adidas PR Manager Zobuzwe Ngobese says “this is the perfect time of year to refresh your gear and get into some good training for a great year of running which lies ahead and this campaign allows everyone to benefit from a discount while ensuring that their old shoes are going to a really good cause”.
The handover of the shoes to the two organisations – SCORE and TOMI – is scheduled to take place in the first week of December. Stefan Howells, the Director of SCORE, says they are delighted to receive running shoes from South Africans as these will go a long way towards assisting aspiring athletes in the disadvantaged communities.
“We have seen a lot of potential in the disadvantaged communities that we work with –where the lack of sporting equipment is a real challenge. These running shoes will be a welcome gift to the young sportsmen and women,” he says.
The Refresh Your Gear campaign runs from 15 October to 16 November 2012. We have partnered with our running retailers throughout South Africa and feel this is a great opportunity for the public to start their running journey with adidas. Stores include; adidas performance concept stores, Totalsports, Sportsmans Warehouse, The Cross Trainer, The Sweatshop and other leading running specialists throughout South Africa. This gives consumers an added incentive through donating old shoes to those in need, plus the added benefit of a R400 discount. There is now no excuse to trial the adidas technical running range, says Bradley Stern, the Senior Trade Marketing Manager, adidas

  1. my heartfelt thanks to Adidas for the refresh gear campaign because I would not have sold my old shoes for R400,my whole family has been using Adidas dating from old models but which had been looked after,to name a few Adidas Kona, all the Rocket range models, the Cs and many more.We exchanged about 10 pairs ranging from cushion, lite cushion & racers.I am so thrilled that Adidas is also a new sponsor for the Two Oceans Marathon, also what I liked about all Adidas shoes I improved my racing times in all the different races I take part in and had been wondering all these years why most Kenyans had been running such fast times! Many thanks again for your initiative of helping the disadvantaged runners, surely this will touch the hearts of the needy.
